Local KI resident returns to Kangaroo Island as qualified CAT Technician.
Ethan Trethewey has returned home to live on Kangaroo Island as the Resident Technician for Cavpower after receiving the highest level of Caterpillar training on heavy equipment and engines.
Having Ethan based on the Island now allows us to serve customers on-site, reducing waiting times, minimising downtime, lowering costs and improving service delivery.
Ethan grew up on his family’s farm about 10km from Parndana, and completed most of his schooling at Parndana Area School, before moving to Kingscote for Years 11 and 12.
“Working on the farm and being around machinery my whole life, I always knew I wanted to become a mechanic once I finished school,” – Ethan.
Ethan has been with Cavpower for 3 and a half years and is on his way to become a Qualified Technician in February 2024. He started in the Component Rebuild Centre at Cavpower and was placed there for 18 months learning about engines, before spending time in the Truck Shop, General Workshop and was then deployed into Field Service. During his time at Cavpower, Ethan spent time working alongside one of Cavpower’s best technicians, Jason Loney.
Having a fully equipped field service vehicle and the technical back up of a Cat dealer in Cavpower will allow him to solve customer issues out in the field rather than machines going into the workshop, which will significantly help reduce maintenance costs and machine downtime.
