Whether full time or school based there is an apprenticeship pathway for you. Cavpower’s Apprenticeships opportunities were created to empower you to achieve a rewarding career as a Diesel Mechanic or Auto Electrician, working on the world’s leading mining, construction, earthmoving, marine, engine, on-highway trucks and power systems equipment manufactured by Caterpillar.

Here’s an example of an apprentice pathway:

  • Step 1 – Work Experience: Preferred candidates complete a minimum of one week work experience at Cavpower in years 10 and 11, and one week in year 12
  • Step 2 – Completion of Secondary Education: Minimum year 12
  • Step 3 – Nominate for apprenticeships: Participate in practical assessment process
  • Step 4 – Apprenticeship Intake: Interview, police clearance, medical and functional assessment

After completion of your four year Cavpower apprenticeship, we will work with you to develop a long term career plan. Remember, at Cavpower, it’s not just a job, it’s a career, and no matter what your goal is, with dedication and hard work, we can help you achieve it.

The first eight weeks of your time with us is spent with our Apprentice Supervisor in Apprentice Basic Training.

Cavpower provides all apprentices with a subsidised tool kit, all necessary uniforms and personal protective equipment. A discount on additional tooling and merchandise is also available.

Here are some of the things you will get to experience during your four year apprenticeship with Cavpower:

  • All training costs met by Cavpower
  • Spend the first 8 weeks completing ‘basic training’ at the Service Operations Centre, Gepps Cross
  • Attend Trade training at the designated TAFE SA Campus
  • Attend regular classroom training provided by Cavpower’s Training Department
  • Industry training/qualifications including forklift, dogging and truck licences for applicable roles
  • Complete selected rotations through various workshops every 3 Months
  • Mentoring by past and current apprentices
  • Compete for yearly ‘Cavpower Apprentice of the Year’ title in 3rd and 4th Year
  • Be in the running for a trip to Melbourne and the USA through Caterpillar’s Top Apprentice Program
  • Receive a Caterpillar Passport (once graduated) to assist you in working at any Caterpillar dealership around the world
