Wear Debris Analysis

Separation and the study of particles generated by wear processes, can provide a powerful basis for condition monitoring of machines. These particles are obtained from oil samples, oil filters and magnetic plugs. They are then examined by either Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) or by Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS).

The particles are then characterised by:

  • Abrasive wear
  • Fatigue wear
  • Fretting wear
  • Laminar wear
  • Cutting wear
  • Sliding wear
  • Overheating
  • Contamination

Wear Debris Analysis (WDA) can detect potential failures and abnormal machine or lubricant conditions. It is also able to determine root cause of failure. Cavpower offers Wear Debris Analysis as part of our range of S•O•S Laboratory Services.
