The heart of any piece of equipment is the power train. A Cat Certified Power Train Rebuild is a cost-effective way to maximise the multiple lives that are designed in to a Cat® machine, during the rebuild all components are inspected, repaired and overhauled and the required product updates carried out.

A rebuild enables you to restore like-new performance, incorporate critical engineering improvements, enhancements and technology updates on your machine, while also being able to bring a machine to current production status and safety standards with additional features that may not have been previously available on the machine.

The Power train rebuild process

Step 1. Inspection / Evaluation

A comprehensive evaluation of your power train including fluid analysis, visual inspections and maintenance procedure reviews are carried out to determine a customised rebuild plan and an accurate cost estimate.

Step 2. Disassembly

Once a rebuild plan is determined the power train is completely disassembled. Parts including hoses, belts, seals, gaskets, bearings, knobs, wiring, switches and gauges are replaced with new parts. All remaining parts are inspected and measured against our strict re-usability guidelines. Any parts that don’t meet the guidelines are either replaces with new or Cat reman parts, or are reconditioned to meet our guidelines.

Step 3. Engineering Updates

Any critical improvements that have been made to the machine model since the original date of manufacture will be incorporated into your power train.

Step 4. Power Train Parts Inspection

The engine, fuel system, transmission, torque converter, differential, final drives and radiator are disassembled, inspected, reconditioned and updated with new or qualified parts. Each component is thoroughly bench-tested before re-installation.

Step 5. Reassembly

During the reassembly of your power train all critical torques, clearances and pressure settings are maintained and recorded. Engine wiring harnesses are always replaced.

Step 6. Performance Testing and Adjusting

Rigorous testing is conducted through several stages of the rebuild process to ensure quality control. Standard tests performed are; turbocharger boost, throttle response, stall speed rpm, transmission and steering clutch response, plus hydraulic and pilot relief valve pressures. Contamination control procedures recommended by Caterpillar are also implemented to maximise system cleanliness.

Step 7. Customer Evaluation

The rebuild process is only complete when you and your operators are completely satisfied with the performance of the power train in its working environment.

The rebuild process extends beyond a piece of rebuilt equipment. The value of your equipment increases with warranties and coverage from Caterpillar— and the support of the largest dealer and parts distribution network in the world.

Every Cat Certified Rebuild includes a new parts warranty on all replaced parts and your choice of extended power train coverage includes;

  • 24 months or 4000 service hours
  • 36 months or 6000 service hours
  • 48 months or 8000 service hours
