WELCOME TO OUR APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME 

 

As an apprentice with Cavpower you will be able to achieve a rewarding career working on the world’s leading mining, construction, earthmoving, engine and power systems equipment manufactured by Caterpillar®.

 

Your training and career doesn’t have to stop there. We offer great scope for promotion and advancement within the company, across all of our branch locations and ultimately through our organisation structure. Many of our senior managers began their careers as trade apprentices with Cavpower, including our Executive General Manager. 

 

We currently have approx 70 apprentices being trained and also received the 2009 Minister’s Award for Employers of Australian Apprentices.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

We advertise for apprentices in July and August each year via our website, local schools and newspapers.

Successful applicants will undergo the following recruitment process; interview, theory and practical assessment, police check and pre employment medical.  All successful candidates receive a formal letter of employment advising of commencement date. 

Most apprenticeships begin in January of each year. 
 
What’s Involved
 
During your four year apprenticeship, you will be rotated through the various departments including (but not limited to):-

  • General Workshop (machine pre-delivery and repairs)
  • Clean Specialisation Workshop (component overhaul and testing)
  • Welding Shop (introduction to welding principles and some structural repairs)
  • Field Service (machine/engine service and repairs in the field)
  • Service Technical Office
  • Tool store
  • Hydraulics Service Centre
  • Used Parts
  • Truck Engine Facility
  • Branch locations (where appropriate)

 
You will gain experience of repair, servicing and maintenance for a range of construction, mining and earthmoving equipment, engines and power systems manufactured by Caterpillar®. You will receive comprehensive theory training in our own Training School and with TAFE.

 
During your apprenticeship you will be trained to operate a Fork Lift and be given training on how to move Caterpillar equipment safely around our site and workshop. 


The first 6 months will be a probationary period for both you and us, to assess your suitability and compatibility for our apprentice scheme. 


Cavpower provides all apprentices with an exceptional Tool Kit, which is offered to you to purchase at a generously subsidised price. In addition, you will receive all necessary safety equipment, overalls and your first pair of safety boots.
